From my studio window in the late afternoon, I often watch the guinea-fowl scatter across the garden. They arrive in a flurry, indignant, theatrical, impossibly noisy — fussing and chattering as though relaying urgent news from one end of the bush to the other.
There is something wonderfully unrefined about them, yet there is rhythm in their chaos. This painting captures that spirited energy — the movement, the humour, the unapologetic presence of these birds who refuse to pass quietly through the landscape and yet bring me so much pleasure.
This is what you get when you live in the African Bushveld.
